After years of neighborhood opposition and legal challenges, the Villages at Saugatuck development on Hiawatha Lane is nearing completion and represents a new model for housing in Westport. The 157-unit multifamily development, led by Spinnaker Real Estate Partners and Summit Development, combines traditional affordable housing under Connecticut's 8-30g statute with Connecticut's Build for CT program. Of the 157 apartments, 48 units are designated as affordable under state law, and another 30 units are reserved for middle-income residents under Build for CT, a newer state financing initiative aimed at residents priced out of affluent communities but unable to qualify for traditional affordable housing. The project demonstrates use of state programs to provide market-rate, affordable, and middle-income housing options in Westport.
