September 13 Flash Flood: Emergency Response and Recovery

๐Ÿ“… Sep 13, 2026 ๐Ÿ“ Westport, CT
Westport experienced severe flash flooding on September 13, 2026, when approximately seven inches of rain fell in a three-hour span, overwhelming infrastructure across the region. Emergency responders handled more than 130 flood-related calls, rescued 13 people from vehicles, and evacuated five residents from a care facility. The Jesup Road Bridge at Imperial Avenue was severely damaged and remains closed to traffic pending replacement. The Town continues assessing damage to residences, businesses and public infrastructure. The town launched a Storm Recovery webpage (westportct.gov/sept13flood) to help residents and businesses find assistance resources, insurance information, repair guidance and town updates in one place. Residents are urged to complete Connecticut's damage survey to document losses and help determine eligibility for FEMA and other federal disaster assistance. Cleanup efforts continue with free assistance available through Southern Baptist Disaster Relief.
