September 13 Flash Flooding Declared Official Disaster

๐Ÿ“… Sep 13, 2026 ๐Ÿ“ Westport
On September 13, 2026, Westport experienced devastating flash flooding that resulted in a federal disaster declaration. Parts of Westport and surrounding areas received approximately seven inches of rain in a three-hour span, overwhelming infrastructure and causing widespread damage. Emergency responders handled 130 flood-related calls, rescued 13 people trapped in vehicles, and evacuated five residents from a care facility. The Jesup Road Bridge at Imperial Avenue sustained critical damage and remains closed. Governor Lamont secured a federal disaster declaration, which enables residents, families, businesses, and nonprofits to apply for low-interest loans from the Small Business Administration to aid in recovery. The Town of Westport continues assessing damage and urging residents and businesses to report all flood damage to the Connecticut Division of Emergency Management and Homeland Security's CrisisTrack system to qualify for federal assistance.
